Supergirl meeting The Flash in tonight’s episode of Supergirl is a notion that has consistently made me happy whenever each new photo or clip has been released. In a world where two other major DC icons are treated in such a dark manner on the big screen, it is nice to see that tonight’s Supergirl “Worlds Finest” is really the antithesis of that.
Kara Danvers and Barry Allen are both heroes who, despite some horrible tragedies in their past, seem to genuinely love helping people. They want to do their best for the people around them, which is especially hard for Kara lately as the city’s trust is still not rebuilt after the things that happened while she was under the influence of Red Kryptonite. Barry has his STAR Labs “family” to look after but now he has people from multiple Earths to think about!

The multiple Earths thing is what allows the two shows to come together for this one night event, and it’s a whole hour of fun. For those not familiar with both shows, audiences are quickly taken up to speed. There’s so much fun dialogue, and the interactions are great. As usual for Supergirl, Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant gets the best lines.
And then there’s Barry and Kara. Those who know me, know I’m not much of a “shipper” of any sort…but these two are *adorable* together with chemistry off the charts. Part of me wonders if the only right partner for either of them is someone who is going through the same thing. It’s interesting to see Barry as the veteran in this scenario, and as always, Grant Gustin shows he’s one of the best there is at what he does. He fits seamlessly into the other show. Unfortunately for Supergirl the series, the Kara/Barry chemistry makes you wonder why Kara would go for James or Winn when the Barry thing seemed to work out so much better.
Italia Ricci’s Siobhan finally goes all Silver Banshee here, and this is fun to see because by all accounts, Italia herself is lovely, but Siobhan is selfish and just plain mean. I guess it’s a testament to her acting ability that she plays someone so different from the Italia that I interviewed about Chasing Life last year. It was fun to see Livewire (Brit Morgan) back on the show, and the two made a fun supervillain team-up to counteract the good guys.

And speaking of the ladies, Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan Tatum) is fitting in well at the DEO and it seems like her and Kara might be forming a friendship! I’m looking forward to more of that.
Ultimately, “Worlds Finest” is everything I could have wanted from a TV crossover, and I hope it’s not the only time we see Barry and Kara teaming up. If you’ve been able to resist watching preview clips, keep resisting — it’s best to catch this one as it airs, 8PM tonight on CBS. These are the kinds of heroes I want to see — and I’m so glad Greg Berlanti and his talented producing partners can bring us heroes like these.
You can find photos from “Worlds Finest” here and if you’d like to join the countdown on the forum, you can find it here!
