Could it finally be time for new scripted programming to hit broadcast TV?
For FOX, it is, as they are premiering the season opener for Bones as well as the first episode of their new series, Sleepy Hollow, tonight (September 16).
Sleepy Hollow also happens to be one of my favorite Fall pilots this year, that I enjoyed so much that I’ve already set up a discussion forum for it here on KSiteTV.
So what is it about? A time-lost Ichabod Crane in the 21st century. Yep, that Ichabod Crane, from The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow. It’s Captain America plus about 150 years, and, yes, they do make that comparison within the show. Where Ichabod Crane goes, there is a Headless Horseman, so there’s an immediate danger to what happens within. Some extra layers of mystery are sprinkled in on top. Some critics have panned the concept as kind of ridiculous, but it’s the kind of ridiculous that I can’t help but to love.
Sleepy Hollow has some other advantages working for it. The two leads, Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie, are two actors I had not been familiar with before, but their chemistry is great and they’re the kind of pairing that you can get behind as series leads in the same way that people like Bones and Booth, or Castle and Beckett. It’s an unlikely, possibly not even romantic pairing, but it’s fun. There are other familiar faces – like Orlando “I remember when he was on Sound fX” Jones and John “Does A Lot Of Stuff But Is Still The MILF Guy” Cho – and they provide good support, but a lot rests on the shoulders of these two and they pass with flying colors.
I also appreciate that Sleepy Hollow might possibly have the most diverse cast in a new Fall TV show — and I don’t think it’s intentional, it just happened to be that way. The world is a diverse place, and I’m glad to see this accurately reflected.
The show is beautifully shot, and personally speaking, I can’t wait to see more. I hope others like it as much as I did. It definitely gets a “yes” on my recommendations list.

I’m watching tonight. Once BATB is back, I’ll DVR, but I’ll still watch within the first 24 hours.
