FOX again made Glee available early to journalists this week, which is surprising in a way since this is one episode they wouldn’t want to be spoiled. Fortunately (or hopefully) we all know how to behave and not ruin anything.
“The Break-Up” is a transitional episode for the series full of characters that we haven’t seen a lot of lately and duets and group songs that have some weak links. Here are five things that viewers might have to look forward to (or not).
1. Finn and Santana! On the one hand, I know Finn’s story needed to continue, as the character and the actor who played him were an important part of the show’s first few seasons. But I admit now, with no offense to Mr. Monteith…. I actually didn’t really miss him. I think Finn is a character that is purposely bland and dim, so I’m kind of over him, and Monteith’s musical talent also gets old after not too long, especially when there are better vocalists in the cast. Having him around almost felt like holding on to the show’s past instead of moving forward as the show should.
Having Monteith doing songs with other people, like Darren Criss or Naya Rivera… he doesn’t really fit.
On the flip side…. Santana’s obviously in another world too, story-wise, but I can not deny the chance to listen to Naya Rivera singing. She has been one of Glee’s biggest surprises and strongest talents. Who would have thought that the mean cheerleader from Season 1 would have it in her? But as soon as the show let her go for it… the show was all the better for it. And Santana, as a character, was one that I always seemed to enjoy, even when the rest of the show suffered at times. I just get happy when she sings. Great stuff.
2. Drama. With a title like “The Break-Up” there’s bound to be drama, and there is a lot of it. Some of it seems to come out of nowhere; some of it will make certain people strongly dislike certain characters. I shouldn’t really say any more with fear of ruining anything.
3. Darren Criss does “Teenage Dream” again. It’s done acapella style, and I admit I liked it better the first time around.
4. There’s a little bit with the new characters. The new characters don’t get a whole lot to do this time, though Brody has a duet with Rachel and there’s another story involving Jake, Kitty and Marley. The McKinley Glee club, while present, is largely in the background, with everyone else’s drama seeming to take center stage.
5. Does anyone really care about Will Schuester anymore? Really. I’m asking.
All in all, tonight’s is an episode Glee fans will be talking about for a while, for better or for worse. I do applaud them for making bold moves that could potentially be uncomfortable, though at the same time it’s a strong risk to shake things up for at least one of the show’s power couples. The episode airs tonight at 9PM (ET) on FOX.

Finn’s still the best part of the show for me. So glad to have him back!
I don’t care about Will that much as an individual anymore, but I admit that I still love his relationship with Emma. I also like Finn.
I love Will, always have, think abandoning his storyline and considerable talents was a huge mistake by the producers who were the ones to kind of destroy his character in season two. And if everyone cares so much more about the lids etc then why are the ratings continuing to drop. I have people in my life complaining about way too much Rachel and not enough Adult storylines. Adults don’t really go online much to chat about their favourite shows.
