Hart Of Dixie is one of those series that I don’t watch as often as I should, and whenever I watch it, I don’t understand why I haven’t been watching every week. Fortunately, it’s a show that, despite having some continuing storylines, can be hopped on to at any point without missing a beat.
Tonight’s episode, airing at 9PM on The CW, brings a few of those storylines together and the cow pies hit the fan. Everything starts to fall apart following Lavon and Lemon being caught kissing in the most recent episode. Now it’s a matter of who knows, how can we keep from confirming that, and how do we keep Lavon and George – Lemon’s actual fiancee – from killing one another when and if George finds out?
The episode also has Lemon’s bridal shower, set up by her sister, who is a character I hadn’t seen on the show a lot, but I like her a lot. She’s a more toned-down version of Lemon, and a toned-down Lemon is a good thing, since the usual variety is a bit much to handle.
Meanwhile, Wade, George, and Lavon all end up going on a camping trip, with some hilarious results.
Justin Hartley of Smallville guest stars as Jesse, a “war hero” who shared a past with Wade, who is not very happy to see him in town. He forms a connection with Zoe pretty easily as soon as he enters the picture. It’s great to see Justin on TV again and I wish him well with his new pilot, First Cut. Whether that does or does not work out, I wouldn’t mind seeing him in Bluebell again, either.
As I noticed when I’d seen the show before, Hart’s greatest asset may be the minor characters who pop in and out, Gilmore Girls style. This time, Bluebell resident Tom certainly has some of the best lines and moments of the week.
Seeing this episode confirmed for me that Hart Of Dixie is one of those overlooked shows that I really should watch on a weekly basis, because visiting “Bluebell” is a lot of fun. Of the three freshmen series on The CW this year, it’s probably the best of the bunch, and it also has the biggest potential for growth if people like me would start regularly watching the whole thing. The crazy things that happen in tonight’s show, and the inclusion of a certain Green Arrow, are good reasons why tonight would be a good time to check it out. If I wasn’t lost, the newcomer viewer won’t be either.
