Charley has always been a good problem solver. That ability to critically think on her feet helped preserve Davis’s status as an NBA superstar and allowed her to transition to a life in New Orleans when everything she knew fell apart. Without it, she wouldn’t have started up the mill, nor would she have come up with this (possibly risky) plan to burn down the Landry empire and fundamentally change the culture of the local cane business. Even though Charley’s had a lot to deal with recently, from strife with Nova and Ralph Angel to Davis confessing to a teenage love child, Micah going to public school, and Remy’s sanctimony tanking their relationship, that willingness to do whatever it takes to survive, to attack conflict from any and all angles until a solution is reached, is something that’s never left her.
On the next episode of Queen Sugar, the Bordelons learn the truth about Sam’s real plan for the land that’s now open after a series of evictions. Charley already knows that Jacob was lying about environmental concerns being the reason Prosper and those like him are being treated this way, but after getting a look at the land that the Landrys already owned and what they’ve recently “acquired,” the reason for all of this becomes clearer. Given the proximity of the land that black farmers have been evicted from, it looks like the Landrys are trying to put the squeeze on the Bordelons and make it more difficult for them to hang on to their farm. By getting into bed with the Landrys, Charley thought that she could dismantle their empire from the inside using the corruption inherent to their success; however, with Jacob no longer looking like the sane member of the family and the farm appearing vulnerable, her back is now against the wall. She has to find some chink in the Landry armor soon or else all of this effort will have been in vain.
Elsewhere on Queen Sugar, Violet learns the terms of her new business arrangement with Rollins, while Darla and Ralph Angel’s custody issues intensify and Nova grows closer with Remy.
Due to the July 4th holiday, Queen Sugar will return Wednesday, July 11th at 10:00 on OWN.
Do you think the Landrys could be trying to squeeze the Bordelons out by buying the farmland around them? Could Violet’s impulsive decision to accept this latest offer from Rollins come back to bite her? How long will it take Ralph Angel and Darla to come to some sort of agreement about Blue?
