ABC has officially renewed Quantico for a 13-episode third season less than 24 hours ahead of its upfront presentation. Despite the show dipping as low as 0.5 in the 18-49 demo and routinely retaining around a third of its lead-in since moving to Mondays, its international star power in lead Priyanka Chopra has helped it become a strong international seller for ABC Studios, which aided in the renewal. Given that ABC has acquired American Idol and can’t be that aggressive on Sundays, it wouldn’t be a shock to see this show as part of a surrender lineup designed to full space and concentrate ABC’s stronger assets elsewhere.
From Joshua Safran (Smash), who will be stepping down as showrunner after two seasons, Quantico began as the lives of young FBI recruits training at the Quantico base in Virginia. The series rebooted in its second season and focused on Alex Parrish (Chopra) navigating mysterious CIA training facility The Farm.
In addition to Chopra, Quantico stars Jake McLaughlin (In the Valley of Elah), Aunjanue Ellis (The Book of Negroes), and Johanna Braddy (UnREAL).
The second season finale of Quantico airs tonight on ABC. You can check out what KSiteTV thought the network could do with their schedule for next season here.
