FOX has cancelled freshman legal drama Proven Innocent, it was confirmed today.
The news comes as no surprise given the show’s performance this season, where it’s regularly dropped off a lot from its lead-in and landed below an unrounded 0.40 in the demo multiple times. With FOX likely reducing its scripted hours next season, Proven Innocent would’ve had to majorly overperform in order to put itself in renewal consideration, so soft linear and non-linear numbers, zero buzz, and a cast member who signed on to a pilot spelled doom long ago.
From David Elliot (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) and executive produced by Danny Strong (Empire), Proven Innocent told the story of Madeline Scott (Rachelle Lefevre), a lawyer who specializes in wrongful convictions after spending ten years in prison for a crime she didn’t commit. The series followed her criminal defense firm as they worked to clear the name and records of each of their clients while bumping up against the overzealous state attorney.
In addition to Lefevre, Proven Innocent starred Russell Hornsby (Grimm), Nikki M. James (BrainDead), Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men), Riley Smith (Frequency), and Kelsey Grammer (Frasier).
The series finale of Proven Innocent is set to air Friday, May 10th on FOX.
