New Power Rangers This Weekend: Featuring Never-Before-Seen Powers!

The second episode of Power Rangers Super Megaforce airs Saturday at 12p.m./11c on Nickelodeon, and longtime fans of both the series and the Super Sentai source material are getting a treat. The episode is entitled “Earth Fights Back,” and Saban has released a preview clip and episode description. You can read the description below:

While the rest of the team works with the civilians to rebuild their city, Troy stumbles upon a plot by the Armada to launch missiles at major cities throughout the world.

In the clip, the Rangers access powers that have “never before been seen on this planet”—which, in reality, are suits that were not used in Power Rangers, from a series entitled Gosei Sentai Dairanger.

A brief history lesson for viewers not on the up-and-up: Much of the source material for Dairanger was used in season 2 of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, including the new monsters and Zords. But with the exception of the White Ranger, all the Dairanger suits were scrapped in favor of retaining the original suits from Mighty Morphin. What resulted was an era of Power Rangers where multiple series were spliced together, and the Dairanger suits became an enigma the casual viewer would never have known about.

So, it’s exciting to see the suits being finally seen in action on Power Rangers, even though they’re simply explained away as being of alien origin. But if they can use powers from other planets, times, and dimensions altogether, it makes sense to come across suits from other worlds that we haven’t seen, right?
