Hot on the heels of ordering two drama pilots earlier today, FOX again bolstered its 2019-20 development by ordering a relationship comedy and an AI thriller.
From Jon Beckerman (Ed), Adam & Eve tracks a couple through three stages of their relationship – young and passionate, middle-aged with kids, and navigating retirement. The series will explore issues of love, marriage, commitment, parenting, and compatibility.
From Manny Coto (24: Legacy), neXt teams a brilliant, paranoid former tech CEO and a Homeland Cybersecurity agent as they try to stop the world’s first artificial intelligence crisis: the emergence of a rogue AI with the ability to continuously improve itself.
Adam & Eve is the fourth live-action comedy pilot FOX has ordered this development season, joining Geniuses, about a blue-collar couple raising three genius children; Patty’s Auto, which takes place in an auto repair shop with all female mechanics; and Richard Lovely, following a children’s book writer who undergoes something miraculous. The network already has given series orders to animated comedies Duncanville and Bless the Harts.
neXt is the fifth drama pilot for a network whose scripted presence is set to shrink in the coming years. It joins Filthy Rich, a dramedy about the family of a Christian television executive learning that there are more heirs to the throne than they thought; Prodigal Son, about the son of a serial killer becoming a criminal psychologist; Deputy, which follows the acting Los Angeles County sheriff as he takes over the department following his predecessor’s assassination; and an untitled dramedy that takes place over the course of one wedding.
