ABC has expanded their pilot orders once again, ordering a wrongful conviction drama executive produced by 50 Cent and a multi-cultural family comedy.
From Hank Steinberg (The Last Ship) comes a serialized legal/family drama based on the life of Isaac Wright, Jr., a man who becomes a lawyer while incarcerated in order to overturn a life sentence for a crime he didn’t commit. The series will examine the fight to get back to his family and how the penal and legal systems allowed this to happen in the first place.
From Julius Sharp (Making History), United We Fall is a multi-cam that follows the parents of young children whose overzealous extended family makes raising kids simultaneously easier and more difficult.
This makes nine drama pilots for ABC this year, with their roster including a remake of Israeli romantic dramedy The Baker and the Beauty; stalker thriller The Hypnotist’s Love Story; P.I. drama Stumptown; Bermuda Triangle speculative fiction Triangle; and a revival of cop drama New York Undercover.
On the comedy side, United We Fall is the second multi-cam ABC has ordered following its untitled Leslie Odom, Jr. project. Katey Sagal-starrer Nana is said to be a hybrid a’la How I Met Your Mother.
