Adding to the list of potential spinoffs from The Batman movie to air on HBO Max, trade reports today (including The Hollywood Reporter) are noting that, while unconfirmed by the studio or the streamer, HBO Max is currently developing a series centered on Batman villain, The Penguin.
A fantastic origin story for Oswald Cobblepot was told on Gotham where he was played by Robin Lord Taylor; this series, however, would take place in the world of The Batman 2022 feature film where Colin Farrell will be playing the role. THR notes that Farrell has been approached about continuing the role in the series, but no deal has been made as of yet.
Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark, who are both involved with the film, will be executive producers on the project. Lauren LeFranc (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) is attached to write a script, which would tell the story of Oswald Cobblepot’s rise through the Gotham City underworld.
The streamer is in early development on a series centered on Batman villain the Penguin. The potential show would be a spinoff of Warner Bros. feature film The Batman, which is due for a March 2022 release. Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark, who are directing and producing the film, will be executive producers on the project.
