13. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (The CW)
I think it was during the Season 1 finale that I realized that most of the characters in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend are kind of horrible people. But they’re horrible people who sing, and that makes it more okay. Rachel Bloom’s Rebecca Bunch is just as neurotic as the rest of us are — the main difference here is that she actually does chase after what she wants, with varying results. A likable supporting cast rounds out this series, with Donna Lynne Champlin’s Paula being my favorite. There’s a reason this show gets the award nominations; now if only more people would actually watch the darn thing.
12. Girl Meets World (Disney Channel)
I will never totally understand Disney Channel’s scheduling for Girl Meets World but I am so grateful it exists. The secret about the show is while it is packaged as a show for preteens, they have all of these inside jokes that only people of a certain age would get. (Would a 12 year old geek out about the Feeney Call, for example?) Sometimes GMW gets preachy, but at its best, it’s a series that all ages can enjoy, and the young cast of the series have made icons just like Cory, Topanga, Shawn, and Eric were.
And as for the similarities… I mean, look at how familiar those Season 3 credits are!
11. The 100 (The CW)
The 100 as a series broke some fan hearts this year… and that’s exactly what happens when it’s good drama. No character seems too precious or off-limits to do horrible, horrible things to. In Season 3, we learned more about what caused people to leave Earth to begin with and Grounder history and rituals were further illustrated. The 100 is a creatively deep show that evolves so much every season; I personally can’t wait to see what happens next.
