FRIDAY
CRAIG: 8:00 Crazy Ex-Girlfriend; 9:00 Jane the Virgin
SHILO: 8:00 Crazy Ex-Girlfriend; 9:00 Jane the Virgin
CRAIG: Both of the CBS dramedies can launch in the Fall so that they are both awards fodder for later. Seems easy, right?
SHILO: For me, Fridays wholly depend on what The CW wants/needs to do with Dynasty. If the show’s individual Netflix deal demands 22 episodes, I think Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin end up sharing a time slot with one forced to air into the summer, but if the network can get away with ordering somewhere in the neighborhood of 16-18, which seems to be the new normal next season, they’ll postpone it until winter and allow their critically acclaimed dramedies one last fall together. The CW loves both Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin, so them giving each one last Golden Globes push and keeping the former from having to air in the spring seems fitting, especially with Dynasty being kept around solely for corporate politics and streaming deals. Plus, if The CW plays their cards right, the extra time to binge, along with higher viewed winter months and at least a moderate marketing push, could help Dynasty look okay next season.
