The CBS 2015-2016 Schedule: Thoughts & Predictions

    MONDAY (Football Months)

As CBS is doing Thursday Night Football again to start the season, the schedule will be different as the season begins.

SHILO: 8:00 The Big Bang Theory; 8:30 Super Clyde; 9:00 Scorpion; 10:00 Limitless
CRAIG: 8:00 The Big Bang Theory; 8:30 Super Clyde; 9:00 Scorpion; 10:00 NCIS: LA

105305_D0732bSHILO: I don’t love The Big Bang Theory with Super Clyde, only for the clash of their formats. Multi-cams with single cams very rarely, if ever, works, and CBS just dealt with this issue with The Crazy Ones being plunked in a sea of multi-cams. If CBS were to order a single cam this season, I’d hope they’d order two and make an hour out of them, but Super Clyde is likely going to be too good to pass up. It’s got a concept that jibes well with Big Bang, CBS loves creator Greg Garcia, and it fits in with the football Monday lineup better than any other comedy they have in development. With Scorpion one of the top dramas on CBS, I’d keep it at 9:00 and have it lead into Limitless, another Kurtzman and Orci project. Both shows are light, popcorn procedurals with heavy action elements and Limitless should be different enough from the other 10:00 dramas, not to mention big enough, to where it could find a pretty solid audience. And what better way to leverage the success of something like Scorpion than by giving it as similar a lead-out as you can?

105702_D0276bCRAIG: And I’m going to deviate and be more conservative with my schedule, by keeping things mostly as they are, except of course for the 8:00 hour during the weeks when football is airing on Thursdays. Eventually I’m sure CBS will either end or move one of the NCIS shows; I don’t think that this is that year.

    MONDAY (After Football)

    SHILO: 8:00 2 Broke Girls; 8:30 Super Clyde; 9:00 Scorpion; 10:00 Limitless
    CRAIG: 8:00 2 Broke Girls; 8:30 Mike & Molly; 9:00 Scorpion; 10:00 NCIS: LA

2brokegirlsSHILO: After football, I would bring 2 Broke Girls back at 8:00 and leave Mike & Molly on the bench. As I don’t think CBS will be reducing its comedy hours, Molly is too valuable a relief hitter to put on the fall schedule. It also gives CBS a quick out if any of its new comedies aren’t working, so Super Clyde would likely have to start bigger than expected in order to avoid a devastating post-Big Bang Theory comedown. It should be young enough to go with 2 Broke Girls, at least, and I think the Scorpion pre-tune in could help buoy it iin the days following Big Bang’s move to Thursdays.

CRAIG: Meanwhile, I’m boring and sticking with the same schedule we’ve had for most of the 2014-2015 season. The CBS audience likes having their shows in the same place!
