The CBS 2014-2015 Schedule: Thoughts & Predictions

Now for our third day of schedule predictions (ABC and The CW can be found here), we’re back – “we” being Craig Byrne and Shilo Adams – with some thoughts on what we might like or expect to see from CBS as they announce their schedule officially next week. As always, we don’t know for sure yet which projects will be officially ordered, and it is certainly not the “real” schedule, but it’s fun to speculate, right?

The CBS schedule should be particularly interesting to see as for the first few months of the TV season, the network has acquired Thursday Night football. This means their biggest hit, The Big Bang Theory, will be moving back to Mondays for a time. As such, our prospective schedules take into account the schedule both before and after football.

    Let’s get started…

    A Weird YearSUNDAY

SHILO: CBS tends to use its Sundays as a syndication farm, a way to add episodes to syndication packages and protect lower-risk veterans. With The Mentalist likely concluding after six seasons, another CBS veteran will have to move to the night, since I don’t see them launching anything new or high priority. CSI seems to be the best option, as it would make solid counter-programming to the onslaught of prestige projects in the hour and has shown itself to be strong enough to handle a tough slot during its time on Wednesdays. CBS could possibly keep The Good Wife at 9:00 and slide CSI to 10:00, but I think the latter has more ratings juice than the former and taking Good Wife away from the likes of Game of Thrones, Homeland, and The Walking Dead should only be a positive for its future.

CRAIG: We’re probably going to have a lot of “me too!” coming from these pieces, as CBS is so rigid and reliable I don’t think there are a lot of options for change. My thoughts on CBS Sunday are the same as yours, except for Sundays at 9 I’d put the new CSI: Cyber spin-off with Patricia Arquette. I was tempted to put the original recipe CSI there, but, I think a female-led show like this might work better as a Good Wife lead-in than it would as a possible show against anything by Shonda Rhimes.

In addition to that, I would have loved to have said “put The Crazy Ones in a single-cam comedy hour at 8″ but there’s not a lot in development for the hour, so I think that one might get cut. Sorry, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Robin Williams. You were great, just hard to find something to go with you.
