FURTHER THOUGHTS FROM CRAIG
Most Surprising Possible Renewal: Does Coach count? Really, though, I’d be surprised if Constantine came back for a Year 2, and that surprise would be the best kind of surprise.
Show That Likely Won’t Be Renewed But Should Be: I’m going to go with About A Boy on that one, too. It’s a fun show to binge-watch on Netflix, which I know doesn’t do NBC much good for live ratings, but it’s comfortable, and I feel like they got a bum deal last year. I also feel like Constantine, despite only having middling ratings, could have and would have been a solid performer had NBC just stuck with it.
Possible Scheduling Disaster: I’m super excited for Heroes, but I think it would have made a MUCH bigger impact if it had aired in the summertime with less competition. No matter where the show is put, no matter how much promotion there is, Heroes could have an uphill climb.
Possible Biggest Surprise: Again, Heroes Reborn. Can you tell I’m excited/obsessed? Say lightning strikes twice and people really like what Zachary Levi, Jack Coleman & co. do, ignoring the apathy that’s been seen by a lot of critics so far. Then what? Heroes Reborn, Again? How long until Hayden Panettiere is petitioning to come back?
Safest Bet: The Voice Mondays. The show might get old if it is run too much into the ground, but for right now, it’s a solid player for NBC. I just hope that this year they get a lead-out that works for them.
Biggest Need: I think almost all of the networks need comedy right now, but more than anything, I think NBC needs more all-star nights where everything is must-see TV. Right now it seems fragmented. People might watch The Blacklist but nothing else on Thursday. The Voice but none of its lead-outs. Hopefully NBC will be able to get things more “together” in that way.

Mysteries of Laura is low in the live demo, but high in overall viewers. And NBC’s “Woman Crush Wednesday” promotion seems to work. In total viewers, the show is NBC’s best result with in-season regularly-scheduled programming versus all regularly-scheduled competition in the Wednesday 8-9pm hour in more than five years. That counts for something.
