FURTHER THOUGHTS FROM CRAIG
Most Surprising (Possible) Renewal: Either Champions or Great News. Neither are highly rated, neither are really close to syndication… but they are pretty reliable, creatively, and they come from talents NBC wants to stay in business with. I’d include Rise here but I think that one will get renewed for another midseason run. And if it’s not, I’ll be disappointed.
Show That Likely Won’t Be Renewed But Should Be: Timeless. I know the show has not done extremely well and certainly doesn’t have a lot of episodes in the bank, but I think this is a show that, if NBC and Sony can make the numbers work, it could pay off for everyone. Let it be the Friday night show it always should have been, work out a deal wth Syfy for repeats, whatever it takes… it’d be a shame to see it go (again).
Possible Scheduling Disaster: Fridays are still not what they could be, and NBC’s Thursdays even with Will & Grace still aren’t the “must see” they need to be. I wouldn’t say there are any disasters of a Law & Order: True Crime variety on the horizon, but I almost wish NBC would take bigger risks so that they could be #1 across the board.
Possible Biggest Surprise: What if NBC tries yet again with the “This Is Us to Thursday” idea?
Safest Bet: “Safe” is a really good word to use. I don’t think NBC is doing anything particularly risky, so it’s all a “safe bet” as far as I’m concerned.
Project I’m Rooting For: L.A.’s Finest. I like Gabrielle Union, I like the idea of a show fronted by women, and I think it could really make a splash.

Part of why they didn’t want to move This Is Us was because of the interruption of Thursday Night Football. With one more solid season under its belt, a post-Super Bowl ep and ThNF now on FOX, I don’t see any reason for them to not move it.
