THURSDAY
SHILO: 8:00 Superstore; 8:30 The Good Place; 9:00 Will & Grace; 9:30 Abby’s; 10:00 Chicago Fire
CRAIG: 8:00 Superstore; 8:30 The Good Place; 9:00 Will & Grace; 9:30 Abby’s; 10:00 Chicago Med
SHILO: During the 2017-18 season, NBC used the Will & Grace lead-in on Great News, a niche single cam that faceplanted in the ratings last season before getting a surprise reprieve, and Champions, a niche single cam that NBC clearly didn’t care for. I’d like to think that NBC has learned that they need to use a multi-cam with their top comedy, if not for compatibility than to give Chicago Fire a halfway decent lead-in for once. The multi-cam with the biggest buzz right now is hangout comedy Abby’s, which follows a group of regulars at an unlicensed bar in San Diego. With CBS likely to have single cams in the hour, two multi-cams would be decent counterprogramming if NBC is determined to keep the second comedy hour on Thursdays; Will and Abby’s would be decently compatible, if for no other reason than format; and the broader lead-in at 9:30 could keep 10:00 solid.
CRAIG: NBC might never again be able to re-create the levels of their “Must-See Thursday” unless somehow they manage to bring back Friends or something, but hey: Superstore and The Good Place are critically loved and Will & Grace could use a more decent lead-out, which is why I’ve recruited Abby’s, a show where maybe yet again NBC can find a place where everybody knows your name.

Part of why they didn’t want to move This Is Us was because of the interruption of Thursday Night Football. With one more solid season under its belt, a post-Super Bowl ep and ThNF now on FOX, I don’t see any reason for them to not move it.
