TUESDAY
SHILO: 8:00 The Voice; 9:00 This Is Us; 10:00 Chicago Med
CRAIG: 8:00 The Voice; 9:00 This Is Us; 10:00 Chicago Fire
SHILO: NBC has shown itself unafraid of using This Is Us on a number of shows in its slate, as the lead-in has been given to the likes of Chicago Justice, Trial & Error, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Law & Order True Crime, and Rise over the past two seasons. While the series still towers above every other drama on broadcast TV, you’d think it would be the time to shove something else at 10:00 and hope that you can at least get something else sampled out of such a strong lead-in. However, This Is Us is big enough that its own Same Day audience is likely eating into its lead-out, which also has to deal with airing in a tough hour for broadcast. Chicago Med already has an established audience of its own, significantly benefited from the post-This Is Us slot due to its procedural nature, and kept Tuesdays from completely floundering after the underperformance of Rise. Therefore, I think they’ll stay the course here by throwing the affiliates a bone and trying to get Chicago Med syndicated.
CRAIG: If NBC learned anything from last season, it’s that you might not want to mess with what works. Keeping a solid show on after This Is Us might prevent the chance of building a new hit, but it also can nurture a steady player so that the network can remain competitive on the night. Comfort can be a good thing.

Part of why they didn’t want to move This Is Us was because of the interruption of Thursday Night Football. With one more solid season under its belt, a post-Super Bowl ep and ThNF now on FOX, I don’t see any reason for them to not move it.
