SHILO: The way the pilot buzzes and bubble watches seem to be pointing, NBC will have a maximum of four new dramas this season, so there’ll be two more new dramas in addition to what they premiere this fall. My guess is that we see Reverie, about a detective investigating a virtual reality program gone awry, and one of Good Girls/Shelter if NBC even goes for four new dramas, but where their schedule is crowded enough as it is, I wouldn’t be shocked if we only get three. In terms of comedy, The Sackett Sisters seems likely because of Great News‘s weak second week and NBC’s desire to keep working with Tina Fey, while they’ll pick up something to fill in for The Good Place after it concludes its second season (maybe Spaced Out, a workplace comedy from Bill Lawrence?) and probably one more. In terms of renewals, Shades of Blue could be joined by Taken (cheap, decently on brand, probably bound for Friday/summer), Trial & Error (NBC seems to love it and it’s gotten great reviews), and/or Timeless.
CRAIG: Shades of Blue, For God and Country… there are several options for midseason. I also would think at least one Chicago show, likely Justice, would wait for the middle of the year again. And who knows what the future will bring for The Carmichael Show or Marlon. I’m not taken with Taken but if they can make it work, go for it. It also sounds like The Sackett Sisters is testing well and may be saved for midseason, so let’s include that on the list of possibilities.
