CRAIG: Is there still life in America’s Next Top Model?
SHILO: Will America’s Next Top Model ever see the heights of its glory days, when it was far and away the highest rated series on The CW? Definitely not.
But can America’s Next Top Model continue in this role of late summer/early fall placeholder that allows The CW to concentrate on building up its weeknights? I don’t see why not.
America’s Next Top Model is the only reality series to ever work on The CW during the regular season and until the network either finds other unscripted pieces or builds up its scripted slate to the point where Top Model isn’t needed, the show is integral to the fabric of The CW. It’s a cheap production that can change its skin on a seasonal basis (e.g. the yearly themes that have guided casting/challenges), making it one of the more flexible scheduling blocks for the network, while it’s been one of the stronger aspects of their summer since the relocation a few seasons ago. The CW is still in the early stages of getting serious about a summer schedule and while America’s Next Top Model doesn’t have as much buzz as it once did, it does numbers and has an audience that cannot easily be replaced, not when viewers are still getting used to turning to The CW during the warmer months.
America’s Next Top Model doesn’t have the buzz that it once did, but it has value for The CW and I can’t see it taking its final walk down the runway anytime soon, barring extenuating circumstances.

BATB is not an 8pm show, though. The tone fits 9pm.
Still miss Dracula. Want more Crossbones. Still think the CW should confine reality shows to summer.
