CRAIG:Â I’m hearing that Jeremy Carver’s Frequency update is pretty good, so I’d assume that’ll land somewhere. I already said that I’d put iZombie or Reign on Monday nights and I’m assuming The 100 will be back on Thursdays at 9 where it seemed to do all right. Beyond that? I’m not really sure what timeslot real estate is available, unless, say, more shows have limited orders. Transylvania sounds fun in a cracky way, but I haven’t heard much about it at all.
I also still wouldn’t be shocked if Supergirl lands at The CW if CBS should pass, in which case, sorry Legends, Supergirl‘s taking Thursday. I just hope if the show does make the move that they continue to keep some of the high-caliber talent involved with the CBS version of the show. (In other words, cut Calista Flockhart and I’ll cry.)
SHILO: Trying to figure out The CW’s midseason schedule is interesting because of how many of their shows have sub-22 episode orders. My guess is that once Crazy Ex-Girlfriend plays out its order, we’ll see either iZombie or Reign, should the network go with a veteran; iZombie has procedural bones and its own audience, two things that would be helpful for any Monday transplant, while Reign has done solid business on Mondays following a move to Fridays and a three month hiatus. More likely, Reign will end up airing in the summer since it’ll be going into a fourth (and probably final) season and it’s already airing into the summer this season, but I wouldn’t be completely shocked if it beat the odds and found a way to premiere next midseason.
Otherwise, I think The 100 (likely) pops back up on Thursday, though I could see a scenario where Frequency works, Legends of Tomorrow airs 22 episodes, and the show gets another slot or even a move to summer. And The CW will order at least one more new drama, with the most likely candidate being monster hunter drama Transylvania. It’s from CBS Studios, it has a strong female lead, and it has a concept that could gel with a majority of the network’s scripted slate, so they’ll have to hope that the poor success rate for period dramas doesn’t extend to them. Interestingly enough, though, Reign has been a solid performer for three seasons, so maybe smaller networks are able to make this type of drama work more than the NBC’s and FOX’s of the world.
As far as Supergirl, I would be surprised if it landed on The CW, only because we’ve been repeatedly told how exorbitantly expensive it is compared to their other dramas. I think it could flourish on The CW, though, as long as there was no franchise fatigue since Supergirl would be the fourth member of the Arrow-verse on one network. If not, it might actually be the ideal pairing for The Flash, considering the ratings for the crossover earlier this season and how well matched they are as far as tone and theme.

What I wish is that they would go back to early(er) September premieres. I’ve had this feeling for a while that too many people are already hooked into their nightly schedules by the time The CW premieres come. Getting out of the gate first would breed loyalty.
It would be a great thing, although it’s rare for a show to have more than 9 or 10 episodes done before December, which is what they usually run all the way through to before reruns. If they started filming sooner, that would be a great solution.
Though, that also brings up the other problem CW viewers especially seem to have, and that is breaks. If people think three-week breaks between episodes in March are bad imagine what happens if they have to stretch 22-23 episodes between September and May.
Maybe, though, with so many shows on the schedule, they’ll have to start a little earlier.
