CRAIG: I will forever think Law & Order: SVU needs to be back at 10:00, but apparently NBC doesn’t. This should be another strong night for NBC, though, and if The Mysteries of Laura can wipe Smash out of my mind when I see Debra Messing now, it will be a success.
SHILO: I don’t mind standing pat on Law & Order: SVU and Chicago PD, since the two fed off each other fairly well and the latter will be under pressure to perform in a more competitive time of year when it returns in the fall. So, it likely needs the extra time with a solid lead-in and the time slot is likely one year away from NBC being ready, willing, and able to attack. I’m very curious about The Mysteries of Laura, though; I think it’s well-scheduled, being the only drama on the Big Four in its hour and comedic enough to avoid scaring away casual/affiliate viewers, but I just can’t see it being a huge 18-49 magnet. Debra Messing is only a name to a certain generation of NBC viewers and the show just reeks of being 2014 Harry’s Law – good total viewing numbers but not enough demo attention to keep itself alive.
