We’re at the end of the line: Our last in a series of analysis articles about each network’s plans for the 2014-2015 season. Today, we (KSiteTV’s Craig Byrne and Shilo Adams) take a look at the NBC schedule and compare it to the predictions we made a few weeks ago. Enjoy.
We’re starting with Monday because Sundays are reserved for football, at least in the Fall.
MONDAY
Craig’s Picks: 8:00 The Voice, 10:00 The Blacklist
Shilo’s Picks: 8:00 The Voice, 10:00 State of Affairs
Actual Schedule: 8:00 The Voice, 10:00 The Blacklist/State of Affairs
CRAIG: It’s like someone at NBC saw our predicted schedules, thought “let’s make it so they were both right,” and went from there. The Voice is a great start to NBC’s week after Sunday night football, and both The Blacklist and State of Affairs should be strong Monday choices. Hopefully for NBC, The Blacklist will reel people back in so that they won’t sample what’s on the other networks, and so, once State of Affairs begins, they’ll be watching that one too. Seems like a good plan.
SHILO: The only thing I worry about with NBC Mondays is State of Affairs getting just a few weeks with The Voice before the latter goes on hiatus. I understand the need to premiere such a high-profile project during November sweeps, but if they were going to keep The Blacklist at 10:00, a better option might’ve been a later premiere for State of Affairs so the show could get an extended stay behind The Voice. However, it should get sampled in the fall, with both its time slot and Katherine Heigl’s return to television getting it buzz, and become one of NBC’s bigger new series.
TUESDAY
Craig’s Picks: 8:00 The Voice, 9:00 Chicago PD, 10:00 Chicago Fire
Shilo’s Picks: 8:00 The Voice, 9:00 Marry Me, 9:30 About a Boy, 10:00 Chicago Fire
Actual Schedule: 8:00 The Voice, 9:00 Marry Me, 9:30 About a Boy, 10:00 Chicago Fire
CRAIG: Shilo, you end up with three completely accurate nights at NBC. Admit it: You’re working for them, aren’t you? Either way, I’m glad The Voice is on at the earlier hour. Nothing to complain about here, really. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen of Marry Me, and I definitely like About a Boy, so this could be good.
SHILO: Clearly, Bob Greenblatt and I are on the same wavelength and I don’t know how to feel about that. The one trouble spot for NBC Tuesdays could be David Caspe-created Marry Me, assuming its humor is as niche as Happy Endings was. If it can keep the energy of the late ABC comedy, slightly broaden its humor, and primarily focus on the central relationship, Tuesdays should be very strong for NBC, with a declining-but-still-mighty The Voice the likely top dog at 8:00, About a Boy a solid 9:30 option, and Chicago Fire on a high after becoming one of the few broadcast series to increase its ratings last season.
