CRAIG: 8:00 Dancing with The Stars; 10:00 The Catch
SHILO: 8:00 Dancing with The Stars; 10:00 Castle
CRAIG: I know there’s a temptation to save the new Shondaland show for Thursdays when Murder is done, or something like that, but I figure ABC will want to start off the season with a bang, and a series like that might do well following Dancing. The Catch is about a fraud investigator who becomes the victim of fraud herself, and the mystery and the trills might be good. Ideally, it’d pick up some of the folks who miss having The Blacklist on Monday nights.
SHILO: Were Once a little weaker, I would shout from the rooftops that ABC should move Castle to Sundays and let it go out on its own terms in another year or two. Sundays would make an okay syndication farm for ABC (a’la what CBS has done the past few years) and it’d give the Dancing with the Stars lead-in, which has become more valuable as the show recovered from recent ratings woes, to another lighthearted procedural. However, ABC didn’t really order any light-hearted procedurals this development season and with Castle as underwhelming in the ratings as it’s been this season, I don’t know if moving it would be a great idea right now, especially with it being owned by ABC. I was all for moving Castle to Thursdays a few years ago, when it could have sewed up the 8:00 slot fairly well, but ABC let it sit on Mondays long enough that it could be a detriment to whatever night it would get moved to. Therefore, I would keep it on Mondays, announce this upcoming season as the last, and hope for a ratings bounce thanks to the new showrunner.
