SHILO: As expected, ABC kept Fridays as they were and tinkered with the rest of the week in smart ways. Last Man Standing and Dr. Ken will be the only comedies in the hour and should continue to match up well with the tastes of the affiliates, while Shark Tank is still a very viable option at 9:00. But the situation on Fridays will be more interesting at the end of next season, as a Last Man Standing cancellation, be it due to performance or finances, could clear an hour from ABC’s comedy slate. Dr. Ken has been a good performer with Last Man Standing, but I don’t think it’s quite strong enough to launch an hour on its own and I don’t know what type of multi-cam ABC could develop, or who they could get to star in a multi-cam, that would be able to self-start on Fridays. So if it noticeably slips next season and Last Man Standing‘s contract negotiations don’t go as well as they’ve went the past few seasons, ABC Fridays could look a lot different come 2017-2018.
