SHILO: The bubble show I’d be least surprised to see come midseason is SHIELD, just because ABC has a good relationship with Marvel and it’s setting up to be a time slot share with Inhumans. Aside from that and possibly The Catch, because you should never count out Shonda at ABC, the network will be filling their schedule with new shows. There’ll be at least one additional single cam ordered (Emily Kapnek’s Splitting Up Together seems good to go, while some combination of Start Up and the Goldbergs spinoff Schooled will make it depending upon the negotiations between Sony and ABC over The Goldbergs), while American Idol will surely be used on a new drama – possibly The Good Doctor, a medical drama starring Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel). Other dramas getting buzz for ABC include futuristic immigration tale The Crossing and Miami-based La Familia (aka Las Reinas), but it just depends on how much space they have and how many bubble shows they’re wanting to keep.
CRAIG: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is certainly on the bench for midseason, though I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s billed as the “final season.” Beyond that, any number of new comedies or dramas could slide in – there seems to be a lot for ABC to choose from. I’d imagine La Familia/Las Reinas will fly, but again, it depends on how much space is open if ABC decides to go with Idol.
