ABC’s 2016-2017 Schedule: Thoughts & Predictions

Most Surprising (Possible) Renewal: I’d be really surprised if The Muppets actually does come back. It seemed like such a big launch and then they retooled it and audiences didn’t seem to care to check it out. I guess I wouldn’t be surprised if ABC retooled it even further, but I think it might just be time to eat the frog and roast the pig, for now.

Show That Likely Won’t Be Renewed But Should Be: American Crime has brought ABC a cable-level respect and critical acclaim. The show has employed a very talented company of actors and addresses social issues largely ignored by other programs. I’m assuming ABC will just order John Ridley’s Presence instead of Season 3; it’s a shame, though, that we can’t have both, and that more viewers didn’t discover this incredibly well done show.

Possible Scheduling Disaster: If ABC does move Castle away from Mondays, what if whatever they put there doesn’t take? That’s a big question on my mind.

Possible Biggest Surprise: Marvel’s Most Wanted could premiere and get much higher ratings than its parent show. I mean, that would be a surprise that I’d like, but I don’t see it actually happening, just because Marvel + spy shows seems to make general audiences apathetic.
