Jill’s in an interesting place, as she doesn’t feel at home on the Upper East Side while being terrified of leaving. Understandably, being surrounded by vapid, status obsessed housewives who have more money than they’ll ever need or even see can be frustrating for someone as anarchistic and (relatively) grounded as Jill, but when she thought about possibly moving to Brooklyn, she realized that for all its faults, she had gotten too accustomed to the life she led on the Upper East Side to leave it just yet. But it’s one thing to consider moving to another urban location and it’s a whole other ordeal to leave the comforts of the city for the suburbs.
On the next episode of Odd Mom Out, Jill is forced to face her suburban anxiety after being invited to a traditional Thanksgiving with Brooke’s family in the suburbs. On top of her general aversion to the suburbs, she’s not exactly thrilled about spending time with Brooke, whose company she tolerates mostly for Andy’s sake, but a funny thing happens after she meets Brooke’s sisters – perfectionist homemaker Barrett and condescending monster Berkley; she begins to feel sorry for Brooke. Jill slowly comes to realize that Brooke isn’t who she is solely due to a fundamental flaw in her makeup. Her background played a tremendous part in fostering the insecurity that she attempt to cover up through her status, her “charity work,” and her flawless appearance. Brooke’s own haughtiness is a defense mechanism meant to keep herself built up while her mistreatment of others is a mirror of what she had to deal with in her youth. But how will Jill reconcile the Brooke that she knows with the Brooke that she gets a glimpse of at Thanksgiving?
