Those who watched the Night Court Christmas episode or those who will be tuning in for the regular Season 2 premiere “The Roz Affair” on January 2 might have been surprised by the absence of Kapil Talkwalkar‘s court clerk Neil, with the character “Flobert” (Gary Anthony Williams) in his place. Is this only temporary?
TVLine was able to get confirmation, and the answer is… no: Kapil Talwalkar has indeed departed from the NBC sitcom reboot. TVLine’s sources say that the cast and producers were grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Kapil and that he “will always be part of the Night Court family.”
Cast changes in early seasons of Night Court are kind of a thing – it took until Season 4 of the NBC classic with the arrival of Marsha Warfield as “Roz” for everything to completely gel. One cast member (Gail Strickland) was dropped after only one episode! Markie Post’s beloved “Christine” character wasn’t a regular part of the show until Season 3 though she did make an appearance once before that. In short, Talwalkar’s in good company — and who knows, maybe we could see him again when Night Court finally finds its perfect cast groove.
This brings up a good question, too: Will the show rework the opening titles to remove Kapil Talwalkar? The screeners viewed by press featured only a title card. If no, it’s a shame, as the retro-style opening titles are part of the fun of the revived show.
