Just Jared has gotten a hold of some photos of Iman Vellani filming the upcoming Disney+ Ms. Marvel series in Atlanta, Georgia. The show features one of Marvel’s youngest Avengers, Kamala Khan, who takes on the role of Ms. Marvel.
The character of Kamala Khan first appeared in Captain Marvel #14 back in 2013; she was the first Muslim superhero to headline her own comic book series, which despite some relaunches has been published fairly consistently for seven years. The Disney+ series is scheduled to premiere in “late 2021.”
The Marvel Studios original series centers on the character as an 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. A great student, avid gamer, and voracious fan-fic scribe, Kamala has a special affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel. However, Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at school — that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life is easier with super powers, right?
Joining Iman Vellani in the Ms. Marvel cast are Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer and Nimra Bucha. Episodes of Ms. Marvel are directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
