Deadline is reporting that Shudder, the streaming service for AMC Networks, has acquired the first season of acclaimed French sci-fi drama Missions. Now possessing exclusive window rights for the U.S., Canada, and UK/Ireland for season one, which is set to premiere September 28th, Shudder will co-produce the second season that’ll premiere sometime next year.
From Henri Debeurme (The Sweeney: Paris), Julien Lacombe (The Sixth Man), and Ami Cohen (The Hunger Games), Missions follows the first manned mission to Mars that quickly transforms into a rescue mission when a competitor’s ship and crew comes under threat. The series addresses the future of our species and planet, drawing unexpected parallels between Mars and the Earth.
Missions comes as Shudder has been working to fill out its library of original content in an attempt to stand out in a crowded marketplace for streaming services. The service is currently home to spooky Spanish drama Desenterrados, unorthodox German mystery The Valley, and Scandinavian whodunnit Jordskott.
