Deadline is reporting that Freeform has given a pilot order to a remake of acclaimed British drama Misfits and cast the first four roles in its supporting cast. Already attached to the series are Ashleigh Lathrop (Sirens) as spoiled middle-class party girl Alicia; Tre Hall (Rebel) as athletic and entitled Curtis; Allie MacDonald (Orphan Black) as brash Kelly, whose temper usually gets her into trouble; and Jake Cannavale (Nurse Jackie) as egotistical con artist Nathan.
Based on the E4 drama originally created by Howard Overman (Crazyhead), adapted for American television by Diane Ruggiero-Wright (iZombie), and executive produced by Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage (The OC), Misfits follows five teenagers in a community service program who develop supernatural powers after being hit by a mysterious electrical storm. The original series, which launched the careers of Robert Sheehan and Iwan Rheon, among others, ran for 5 seasons and won the 2010 BAFTA Television Award for Best Drama.
Should it be ordered to series, Misfits would join a drama slate for Freeform that leans genre with Beyond, Shadowhunters, and Stitchers, as well as upcoming series Siren and Cloak & Dagger. With Pretty Little Liars on its way out, the network also has The Fosters and Famous in Love, as well as upcoming series The Bold Type.
