CBS has released the trailer for its upcoming reboot of Magnum P.I. and in it, we see a man coming to term with significant personal change.
Based on the famed 1980-1988 drama starring Tom Selleck and developed for television by Peter Lenkov (Hawaii Five-0), Magnum P.I. follows ex-Navy SEAL Thomas Magnum (Jay Hernandez) as he arrives home from Afghanistan and transitions his skill set into a career as a private investigator. The series follows Magnum as he adjusts to life post-war and sets about on a career change that takes him, along with Juliet Higgins and fellow POW survivors TC and Rick, all across Hawaii helping others.
In addition to Hernandez, Magnum P.I. stars Perdita Weeks (Penny Dreadful), Stephen Hill (Luke Cage), and Zachary Knighton (Happy Endings). Yes, “Higgins” is now a woman. We see the familiar car from the original show in this trailer, and it seems there’s an alternate take on the classic theme song.
On the downside, Jay Hernandez is missing Thomas Sullivan Magnum’s trademark mustache.
Magnum P.I. is set to air Mondays at 9:00 on CBS. You can check out the network’s fall schedule here.
