CBS has cancelled their reboot of Magnum P.I. after four successful seasons on the air. While the show achieved solid ratings as a part of the CBS powerhouse Friday night, it sounds like the co-ownership with NBCUniversal – who also are behind CBS hits in the FBI franchise – may be what did the show in.
Jay Hernandez and Perdita Weeks starred as Thomas Magnum and Juliette Higgins in the reboot of the classic Tom Selleck series. Tom Selleck’s current show, Blue Bloods, has been renewed for another season.
“That’s a wrap! Time to hang up the Aloha shirt,” Hernandez shared in an Instagram post. “Thanks to all the millions of fans who supported us, the crew who worked tirelessly and the cast who I now call family. Love y’all. See ya on the next one.”
Magnum is in good company: The United States of Al, B Positive, Good Sam, and How We Roll were also axed by CBS following the current TV season. Sadly, what is now going to be the final episode of Magnum P.I. already aired, May 6 on CBS. Fans are doing a #SaveMagnumPI hashtag on Twitter, hoping this could get the decision reversed; time will tell if that works out.
