HBO has set a premiere date for upcoming horror drama Lovecraft Country. The series will begin airing Sunday, August 16th at 9:00.
Based on the novel of the same name from Matt Ruff, with Oscar winner Jordan Peele (Get Out) executive producing and Misha Green (Underground) acting as showrunner, Lovecraft Country tells the story of Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he gathers his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to go on a cross-country road trip in search of his missing father Montrose (Michael K. Williams). Along the way, the group encounters the racist horrors of Jim Crow era America and terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.
In addition to Majors, Smollett-Bell, Vance, and Williams, the series stars Wumni Mosaku (Vera), Jada Harris (The Resident), Jamie Chung (Once Upon a Time), Jamie Neumann (The Deuce), Jordan Patrick Smith (Vikings), Tony Goldwyn (Scandal), Aunjanue Ellis (Quantico), and Abbey Lee (The Neon Demon).
Lovecraft Country is part of a lengthy programming slate for HBO in the second half of 2020. It joins the likes of The Undoing, a limited series starring Oscar winner Nicole Kidman as a psychologist whose life suddenly starts unraveling; Jude Law limited series The Third Day; teen drama We Are Who We Are, from Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name); financial drama Industry; the final season of anthology Room 104; and the second season of His Dark Materials.
