Love Is Renewed for Season 2 by OWN

OWN has renewed romantic drama Love Is for a second season, it was announced Tuesday.

“Mara and Salim have brought their heart and soul to this passion project working with our friends at Warner Horizon Scripted Television and we couldn’t be more thrilled to renew the show for a second season,” said Erik Logan, president, OWN. “This series is an important part of OWN’s scripted programming lineup and to see the ratings grow as the Akils’ love story unfolds each week is truly exciting.”

Thus far in its run, Love Is ranks as the No. 1 show on cable in its time period with W25-54, according to OWN and Nielsen. The series hit series highs across all key demos and total viewers with 1.4 million viewers and a 1.51 rating among women 25-54 with its July 17th episode.

From Mara Brock and Salim Akil (Black Lightning), Love Is follows Nuri (Michele Weaver) and Yasir (Will Catlett), a power couple as they navigate the intricacies of Black Hollywood. Told from the perspective of the characters’ present-day selves and primarily set in 1990’s Los Angeles, Love Is revisits the social issues and vibrant black culture of that time reflecting on how it all aligned to shape the couple they have become nearly 20 years later.

In addition to Weaver and Catlett, the series, OWN’s first attempt at a period drama, stars Yootha Wong-Loi-Sing (Hunter Street), Tyrone Marshall Brown (Chicago PD), Idara Victor (Mad Men), Kadeem Hardison (Parenthood), Clarke Peters (Treme), and Wendy Davis (Army Wives).
