Kung Fu has consistently been one of the best shows on The CW this season, and tonight brings Season 2 of the series to a close. Fortunately, the show has been renewed for Season 3, but first, our favorite characters have to survive the season finale which is titled “The Source.”
KSiteTV spoke with Olivia Liang about the season finale which airs at 9PM ET/PT June 15 (TONIGHT!) after a new episode of The Flash. Since part of our interview was spoilery, Part 2 will have to wait until after the Kung Fu season finale has aired. Enjoy:
With this big finale, is it safe to say that Nicky and Zhilan need to work together to stop Russell Tan who is now in Kerwin’s body?
Oh, 100%. I think the fact that Nicky finally gave in and was like, “Zhilan, I need you. Let’s work together,” they’re definitely going to need to see this through to the end, so that they can stop this. This very an evil man. We call him “Kerwith” with the new Russell -Kerwin mashup.
What was it like working opposite Ludi Lin as “Kerwith?”
Creepy. I mean, he’s doing that that voice. And when we first saw him, he was covered in blood. I know it wasn’t real blood, but it was still very effective. All of mine and Yvonne’s reactions were pretty authentic to the situation, which is that we were standing in front of this guy who’s covered in blood and has changed bodies. So, very creepy!
Could it be the team-up of a Guardian and a Warrior that can stop Russell Tan’s plan?
I think if audiences were to hypothesize that, that would make a lot of sense. We’ve been talking about the hybrid all season, and the death and destruction that she or he can bring. And I think with death and destruction as part of their resume, we can probably assume that they can help end this very big, bad guy.
The writers of Kung Fu really seem to plan things out intentionally. Everything happens for a reason, to get to a certain point. Was there anything about Season 2 that surprised you and made you realize “oh, so that’s where they’re going!?”
100%. We don’t get our scripts until we’re about to start shooting the episode, and the writers tend to not give us too many spoilers about what’s going to happen. Even if we do our best to bribe them on set, they are tight lipped. And so, all of our own theories as a cast were all wrong, which is why I feel very confident in saying that audiences have no idea what is is going to happen in this finale.
Everything about Season 3 was surprising, from Clementine getting blown up, to this Kerwiss body swap, to what happens in the finale, especially that final shot… you know what I’m talking about! Truly, my mouth was agape, reading all of these scripts as they were coming in.
Should audiences worry about some tragedy coming in this finale?
It seems like in the finale, there’s both death and rebirth. You might have to say goodbye to some beloved characters, but also “hello.” There’s a lot going on in this finale, but sacrifices do have to have to be made for the greater good.
Look for Part 2 of this interview on KSiteTV after the season finale has aired because there will be spoilers to discuss! Kung Fu airs at 9PM ET/PT Wednesday, June 15 on The CW.
