Superman Prequel Krypton, Happy Comic Adaptation Picked Up by Syfy

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Syfy has given series orders to two of the four dramas it had in development.

Based on characters created Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and developed for television by David S. Goyer (Da Vinci’s Demons) and Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time), Superman prequel Krypton follows the Man of Steel’s grandfather Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe) as he tries to redeem his family’s honor and save his world from the chaos that threatens to consume it. The series is said to take place two generations before the planet’s ultimate destruction.

In addition to Cuffe, Krypton stars Georgina Campbell (Broadchurch), Aaron Pierre (Britannia), Elliot Cowan (Da Vinci’s Demons), and Wallis Day (The Royals). This is the latest win for the DC Comics television division, which has recently seen renewals for iZombie, Gotham, Lucifer, Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow, among others.

Based on the graphic novel of the same name and developed for television by Grant Morrison (The Invisibles) and Brian Taylor (Crank), Happy follows corrupt ex-cop turned hit man Nick Sax (Christopher Meloni), as he comes across a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue winged horse named Happy after a hit goes wrong.

In addition to Meloni, Happy stars Patrick Fischler (Mulholland Dr.), Zabryna Guevara (X-Men: Days of Future Past), and Ritchie Coster (The Dark Knight).

While these two received series orders, The Machine (based on the Caity Lotz/Toby Stephens film of the same name) remains in contention and horror drama Haunted has been passed over.
