Deadline is reporting that Downward Dog alum Kirby Howell-Baptiste has joined upcoming BBC America drama Killing Eve. She’ll be playing Elena, the deadpan security services assistant.
Based on the Villanelle novels from Luke Jennings and developed for television by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Killing Eve follows Eve (Sandra Oh), a bored security services operative whose fantasies of becoming a spy don’t exactly make her pay-grade job any more fulfilling. However, when Eve comes into contact with elegant killer Villanelle (Jodie Comer), she gets the chance to live a little, as the two engage in a dangerous game of cat and mouse that breeds the obsession they have with one another.
In addition to her role on the ABC comedy, Howell-Baptiste has appeared on the likes of Love, Comedy Bang! Bang!, and Bajillion Dollar Propertie$. She joins a cast that includes Fiona Shaw (Channel Zero: Candle Cove), David Haig (Penny Dreadful), and Kim Bodnia (The Bridge).
Having kicked off production earlier this month, Killing Eve is set to premiere next year on BBC America, where it joins a scripted slate that includes Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and Doctor Who.
