AMC has announced that martial arts epic Into the Badlands has been renewed for a 16-episode third season, up from the current season’s 10 episodes. This marks the second consecutive increase in episode order for the series, which debuted in late 2015 with a six-episode order.
“Into the Badlands looks like nothing else on television, a literal high-wire act attracting passionate and dedicated fans by the millions,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. “Thanks to series creators and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar, the terrific cast, led by Daniel Wu, the amazing martial arts team guided by the incomparable Master Dee Dee and fight directors Stephen Fung and Andy Cheng, and everyone else involved who brings this thrill ride to the fans.”
From Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville), Into the Badlands tells the story of notorious assassin Sunny (Daniel Wu), a man who’s grown tired of the life he’s led and looks to find a sense of peace not exactly conducive with his violent lifestyle. Upon forging meaningful relationships with a gifted young boy and the local doctor, Sunny decides to find his way out of the Badlands and learn to live in the light for the first time.
In addition to Wu, Into the Badlands stars Aramis Knight (The Dark Knight Rises), Orla Brady (A Love Divided), Sarah Bolger (The Tudors), Emily Beecham (28 Weeks Later), Madeleine Mantock (The Tomorrow People), Ally Ioannides (Parenthood), Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead), and Martin Csokas (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring). The series joins a drama slate for AMC that includes The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, Halt and Catch Fire, Turn: Washington’s Spies, Humans, and The Son.
Into the Badlands airs Sundays at 10:00 on AMC.
