“Hell Is Other People” is the title of tonight’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, and it’s a bit of a “Groundhog Day meets Edge Of Tomorrow” situation as the show explores the personal hell of Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder).
We spoke with Vampire Diaries Executive Producer Caroline Dries earlier this week for some details about what fans can expect.
“For Damon, this is Damon’s story of the chickens coming home to roost,” Dries said. “He had unresolved emotional issues with his mom. He basically spat on her grave as she was dying, and now it’s time for him to have a mirror held up to him and say, this is what happens when you don’t have remorse. It’s his journey. It’s a custom-made hell for him.”
Look for some shocking moments in tonight’s episode, the first in Vampire Diaries’ new Friday night time slot. “We’re not a superhero show, we’ve been on a million seasons, [so] of course we have fewer viewers now than when we started,” Dries admits. “Of course it’s like a little humbling, because it’s such an obvious [thing where] low-level shows go to Friday, however, The CW, I feel, is the exception, because Supernatural did so well on Fridays. Who knows what will happen? I think we’re not really in it for getting new viewers. The fans that we have now are the people who I think will watch it any day of the week,” she says, hopefully.
The Vampire Diaries “Hell Is Other People” airs tonight (January 29) at 8PM ET/PT on The CW. You can find some preview images below:
