After a break of a few days, we’re back to posting some of our red carpet interviews from the “Television Out Of The Box” event. Today, we’re posting what what Diedrich Bader had to say on the red carpet.
Bader’s most famous Warner Bros. Television role was as “Oswald” on The Drew Carey Show, and Mimi’s wedding dress from the show was available to see in the exhibit. However, what we wanted to grill him about was his experience of playing Batman in the animated series Batman: The Brave And The Bold.
“It was fantastic,” he says. “You know, there were a lot of haters that didn’t want me to be Batman. They thought Batman with a sense of humor was going to be too far from the ‘Dark Knight’ which kind of dominated everybody’s view of what Batman was really supposed to be. This was taking Batman in a very different direction. For me, it’s kind of the highlight of my career – the fact that I got to be Batman, and that I played him for three years. My son got to play Robin. It was really cool.” (Sebastian Bader performed the role of Robin, son of Damian Wayne in the far future in the episode “Knights of Tomorrow,” perhaps one of the best of the series)
Of the show’s 65 episodes, did Bader have a favorite moment of doing Brave and the Bold? “Although I’m barely in the one that Neil Patrick Harris did as the Music Meister, I loved the line where he sees everybody dancing and singing below, and Batman is in the helicopter and he goes ‘Well, that’s something you don’t see every day’!” he reveals.
Come back tomorrow for another “Television Out Of The Box” interview with a TV favorite! Batman: The Brave And The Bold is currently available on DVD.
