This interview is part of a series of interviews from the red carpet of Warner Bros.’ “Television Out Of The Box” exhibit at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills, CA. To read all of KSiteTV’s “Out Of The Box” coverage so far go here.
In the thirteen episodes of Alcatraz that have aired thus far, one of the most popular characters, by far, has been Warden Edwin James, played by the talented Jonny Coyne. We caught up with Mr. Coyne at the recent “Television Out Of The Box” event, and talked with him about the future of Alcatraz, and that TMZ video that went viral.
“That was very surprising,” he reveals about the video, which saw him making a case for the future of the show, and soon found its way all across the Net. “I didn’t expect it to get quite the response that it had, but that’s all good. Anything to get the show back, is very important,” he says.
If there is a Season 2, what would Mr. Coyne like to see for his character? “I’d like to see me deep, deep, deep in the mire, working with the most dastardly people doing the most horrible things, all for the good of man,” he laughs.
A few days before Alcatraz premiered earlier this year, Coyne and his fellow castmates attended a premiere party for the show. Was the real thing that much different from the sets of the show?
“I had been there many years before, so it was no surprise to me,” Coyne explains. “What I’d forgotten is how big Alcatraz is. I kind of remembered it as a compact place, and then when we saw the set, I thought ‘oh that’s pretty accurate.’ And then I went back there for the premiere, and I thought ‘Oh my God! It’s way bigger than I remember it!'”
Finally, we asked Mr. Coyne what item from Alcatraz he’d like to see in a museum if something like the “TV Out Of The Box” exhibit exists 30 years in the future.”My glasses. My glasses and my three piece suits. I don’t know,” he says.
“Things like that,” he continues. “Dr. Beauregard’s chair… maybe Dr. Beauregard!”
“Keep your fingers crossed. Keep praying. Keep working. Keep tweeting. Keep Facebooking. Talk to your senators. Talk to your Congressmen. Talk to all the producers you know. Talk to the casting directors. Talk to everybody in the street, even strangers, and tell them that you all want Alcatraz to come back! Thank you.”
Come back tomorrow for another “Television Out Of The Box” interview with a TV favorite! Hopefully we’ll be getting news about Alcatraz Season 2 soon. Come talk Alcatraz on the KSiteTV Forum!
