If you’re reading this, that means you probably just finished watching the East Coast airing of “Dangerous Liaisons,” the February 9 episode of The CW’s The Vampire Diaries. If you haven’t seen it… why are you still reading? Come back later so you’re not spoiled!
Anyhow. If you got past that warning, hello. There were several things from Vampire Diaries Executive Producer Julie Plec’s Q&A that we weren’t able to post earlier for obvious reasons, from the group press interview that was held yesterday. Many of the quotes you might find on other websites as well, as we were one of several media outlets in attendance, but here are some answers to some questions that may have come up from tonight’s show.
First off, if The Originals are so well-loved by the audience, would Plec and the TVD writing team really kill them all off at once, now that Esther has set those plans in motion? “I can’t really say too much about that without unveiling the plan for the season, but I think that if the villains in our show have proven anything, from the beginning, it’s that they have a durability that borders on supernatural,” Julie laughed. “Their ability to hurt. Their ability to sense things that are wrong, and of course, our villains’ ability to survive what seems to be certain doom and death. There are five Originals and an Original Mama, and we’ll see who comes out the other side of it all to tell the tale,” she teased. When asked if all of them did indeed drink and swallow the drink tonight, particularly Elijah, Plec confirmed that yes, he did.
We’ll get to know a little bit more about what it takes for the spell to go through in TVD’s next episode. “The next episode takes place in a full moon, and we’ll learn that, like most of the big, heavy-duty witch spells, there needs to be some sort of recurring celestial event or recurring element attached to it,” Plec revealed, adding that Bonnie and her mother may be recruited to help with the spell.
Finally… regarding that final scene in tonight’s show… how is Elena going to react when she finds out what Damon has done? “I think Elena is going to be pissed on multiple levels, but [she’ll] also understand than in a way, she sort of pulled the trigger on that. I think Damon has every right to be angry with her, as well. I think that a lot of people are angry, and are going to continue to be angry with each other as this unfolds over the next episode. The thing with Damon is, as we’ve seen when he’s hurt, he lashes out. And in a way, this is both the most cruel way he could have lashed out, but yet also shows a peculiar evolution in him as a character, because rather than taking it out on an innocent human in the middle of a road, he’s striking where it hurts the most, probably, very specifically at Elena. But by no means is it gentlemanly behavior, but it certainly was fun to watch,” Plec says.
