Sterling Beaumon, whose previous credits include playing the younger Ben Linus on LOST, is now on another ABC drama series, playing the role of Gabriel Walraven on Red Widow, a new show that premieres Sunday night, March 3.
Gabriel is the son of the show’s lead character, the “red widow” of the piece, Marta, and as the oldest of three children. At first glance from watching the pilot, you might think Gabriel is very wise beyond his years… but when we caught up with Sterling himself earlier this week, he said that Gabriel “doesn’t know as much as you may think.”
“He wants to seem older than he really is. He’s always rooting around in places he probably shouldn’t be rooting around in, and what he finds out about his Dad in the pilot, that’s really all he knows,” he said. Even with that pointed out, there is a scene in the pilot where Gabriel is able to break into a memory stick that contains some very sensitive, which may fuel that misconception to the audience that he may know more than we think.
Eventually, might Gabriel learn about the deal his mother has made and what she’s getting herself into? “That, you’re just going to have to really find out,” he teased. “That’s the great thing about this show. You start at this nice level where everything’s perfect for the most part, and then you’re thorwn through a loop when he gets killed, and we’re all going to have to go through this crazy journey together.”
“I think he wants to, to look out for his Mom,” Sterling said when asked if Gabriel might enter the family business. “I think he’d do anything to protect his family. When his father dies, he really feels that he needs to assume that role of the man of the house, and the unfortunate part is he doesn’t quite realize that that’s going to require him to also get his hands dirty, and really join the part of this family that he didn’t even realize existed until right before his dad died,” he speculated. Whatever happens, we’ll have to tune in and find out where Gabriel’s journey will go.
