Rebekah (Claire Holt) is back on tonight’s episode of The Originals, and while we visited the set of the show last week, we spoke with the newest Originals series regular, Yusuf Gatewood, about the return.
“The big thing I think everybody’s excited about is that Rebekah’s coming back, but within that, and her purpose in that, it’s just sort of like peeling back layers on this whole Mikaelson clan, and that’s the cool thing about all of this,” he says.
“We get to peek into what’s really behind some of the actions and the motivations of Esther and Finn. I mean, when I read Twitter, I’ve got to say, I’m hated by a lot of people. And it’s understandable. I’m going after their favorite characters. But we saw that there are some reasons why Finn is so close to his mother, and why Esther is so dead-set on changing the way that her children are living, and this is just a credit to the writers: Every week I feel like the layers are peeled back even more, and in 208, we just get another clue as to what’s going on with this family, and why they are the way that they are. This is going to be a really exciting episode, on both of those fronts. The return of Rebekah, and some more clues as to why the Mikaelsons are the Mikaelsons,” he teases.
You can view our interview – where he also talks about taking on a character with a backstory as big as Finn’s – below. A new episode of The Originals airs tonight (November 24) at 8PM ET on The CW!
