With no offense meant to George Newbern or others who have tried it in the past decade, when someone asks “what does Superman sound like?” the definitive answer will more times than not be “Tim Daly.” Daly returns to the role for the DC Entertainment direct-to-DVD animated feature – Justice League: Doom, which hits Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD on February 28.
We attended the Justice League: Doom red carpet, and spoke with members of the cast and crew… today we’d like to share what Mr. Daly had to say to us.
(And on an unrelated note regarding Tim Daly: When is his version of The Fugitive ever coming to DVD? That was a great show!)
Our questions are printed in bold; Tim Daly’s answers are not.
We’ve heard from some of the other actors that the Justice League seems older and more mature this time around. Did you approach Superman differently than what we had seen before?
I don’t think so. I think Superman is a pretty mature guy. He’s always the adult of the bunch, especially when he gets into the Justice League. He’s a pretty straightforward hero. He has his foibles, but I don’t think he’s aging that much.
How do the other members of the Justice League react to him?
In different ways. I think some of them look up to him. Batman and Superman have a complicated relationship because Batman tends to roll his eyes and be a little skeptical of Superman’s straightforward approach to everything, because Batman is more psychologically dark and twisted. That would depend on the dynamic of the group.
[Noticing Daly’s glasses and dressy attire] Did you purposely dress up like Clark Kent tonight?
I do wear glasses, so I guess that has evolved as I’ve gotten older, but it’s not really an homage to Clark Kent. It’s just that I can’t freaking see anymore.
Our thanks go to Tim Daly for speaking with us and for the Justice League: Doom team for allowing us the opportunity. Check out Justice League: Doom on DVD and Blu-ray Combo Pack February 28! Order your copy from Amazon.com and support this site!
