Continuing our string of dozens of interviews from this year’s Comic-Con, we spoke with Charles Michael Davis, who plays “Marcel” on the Vampire Diaries spin-off, The Originals.
Marcel seemed to become a fan favorite from the second he hit the screen when the “backdoor pilot” aired earlier this year as an episode of TVD. Davis tells us the next two installments of The Originals are just as enjoyable. “I’ve already read the first two episodes, and I’m as excited about them as I was about the pilot, and I think the pilot was well-received, so it’s gonna be really good!”
Davis tells us that whether or not Marcel is a bad guy could be up to interpretation. “Again, it depends on how you look at bad,” he says. “I think I’m a good guy. A little misunderstood, [but] my intentions are good.”
One thing is certain — there is a bond underneath the rivalry between Marcel and his former friend Klaus. “It’s a full brotherly relationship,” he says, starting to fuel the slash fiction fires before the show has even premiered. “The good and the bad. The camaraderie, and then the bad, that competitiveness… it’s just Yin and Yang. It’s two parts of one whole. I think in any relationship, marriage… takes work. You love ’em, you hate ’em, you come back, you love ’em again, and the relationship gets deeper. And that’s something that they have, is a deep relationship that obviously spans hundreds of years. I don’t know how many marriages last that long! Do you get a gold watch, or… what do you get?” he laughs.
