A new episode of Longmire airs tonight at 10PM on A&E, which means it is the perfect time to share some words from Bailey Chase about his character, Branch Connally, who is enjoying a very exciting arc for the third season of the show. We asked Chase if he expected these directions for Branch when he first signed on for the role.

bailey“When I first sat down with the creators of the show, back when we were first starting to do the pilot, Branch was not that interesting on the page, [but] what really sold me on the show and the character was their vision for him,” Chase said.”Basically, it does take the whole first season to flesh him out, and then you know towards end of season one you see Walt Longmire throwing down in the middle of the road, and it’s game on for season two, when that starts and everything with the election,” he continued.

“I pretty much knew about season one and two going in, [but] I did not know about season three. I don’t think they did either. It’s been very unexpected for me, and for them, and probably for the audience; but at the same time ,it’s been a really pleasant surprise. Creatively, it’s just not very often that you’re given this gift and they trust you to just go have fun. It’s been a really interesting journey. I kind of can’t wait for people to see the back half [of the season],” he enthused.

What’s coming up for Branch, and will his current goals get him into trouble with others? “As you saw at the end of last week’s episode, Branch definitely crossed the line by kidnapping this guy and he is going to stay on that path for the remainder of the season. And yes, he is going to suffer some consequences, for sure,” Chase promised.
